JAZZ DRUMMER, COMPOSER, ARRANGER, BAND LEADER
6th March 2026
Jan Gunnar Hoff, piano | Jasper Somsen, double bass | Carsten Lindholm, drums — Rubalcaba
Taken from the upcoming album ‘Human Vibe’ by Hoff Somsen Lindholm, to be released on March 20th.
Rubalcaba was inspired by a powerful performance from Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Aymée Nuviola at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2022. Reworking that inspiration with a new harmonic approach, Somsen created a warm, Latin-tinged tune with an irresistible, singable melody.
COMING UP 20TH MARCH 2026! NEW ALBUM: “HUMAN VIBE” (CHALLENGE RECORDS)
Jan Gunnar Hoff – Piano
Jasper Somsen – Double Bass
Carsten Lindholm – Drums
Human Vibe is the sound of three musicians whose shared understanding runs deeper than geography. Pianist Jan Gunnar Hoff, bassist Jasper Somsen, and drummer Carsten Lindholm come from three different countries, yet their friendship and musical intuition make them feel like lifelong companions. In this trio, a glance, a breath, or a single musical gesture is enough to set the group into fluid, unified motion.

Jan Gunnar Hoff, piano (NO)
Jasper Somsen, kontrabas (NL)
Koncerten foregik i Skt.

The choice to release the live version of the single is made from the point of view of – that it captures the present and the open playful approach to the track. As on all other releases by Carsten Lindholm, the focus is on the simple melody interpreted in a minimalist, strong, expressive Nordic jazzy way.

Carsten is thrilled that Wolfgang Haffner has given him permission to arrange and record this song, as he considers Haffner both a good friend – but also a huge inspiration as a composer and drummer.
Haffner, like Carsten Lindholm himself, focuses on the melody, and you can clearly hear the inspiration from Nordic jazz in many of his songs, which Carsten here passes on in the best way.
Carsten Lindholm himself is known for his compositions within Nordic jazz, with Indian rhythms – and his equilibrist drumming.
